Full circle! We're back in Fitou. It was a bit of a climb going up and over the Corbieres, especially up to Feuilla, but it's very beautiful and worth it. It's really hot! I think this is the hottests we've had it all year. Ludo came to bring us the key. The house is a little upside down with a soft furnishings deep clean in process but we are so happy to be here again and to have arrived!

A roll down the hill to Olonzac where we have lunch in the parc (we likeit aroundhere), a little stretch along the Canal du Midi and a little climb to the last campsite of this summers round. We're the only campers again! Nearly there!

It's really slow going in the rain, the sandy voie verte that climbs ever so gently. At lunchtime we dry ourselves in a pizzeria in Labastide Rouairoux. From here we leave the greenway and climb up to the Col de Serrieres in the rain. There we cross onto the southside of the Montagne Noir and the sun comes out, giving us rainbows. We stay with Odile and Jean Michel who love hosting cyclistes, artists, pilgrims... we sleep well in our Oceania themed room.

Again not a very idyllic ride. The greenways are just a bit silly with super steep ramps. We are cycling between storms until we stop to eat some peanuts and the storm catches up with us. Nothing too bad. In Mazamet we stop for some food shopping and get trapped in the supermarket. For an hour or more the heavens are wide open and we gawp at a wall of rain coming down. We take a room for the night across the road and cook kettle coucous for dinner.

An easy ride along the greenway, past lots of funny little bobbles in the landscape. We cycle past a house with two guys fixing the roof who just keep jodeling their heads off on seeing us. Get to the campsite quite early in the afternoon and she tells us she would normally be closed because there's nobody there and her husband's in hospital. She let's us stay anyway and we enjoy being the only guests in the campsite, howling at the full moon.

Felt like we were on the wrong side of the river today. All the towns and villages were on the other side. A bit more fun landscape than the last two days. The chains are slipping like mad so we go find an open shop. U fortunately we only get two chains. We are staying with Bettina and Dan who are absolutely sweethearts. They offer to stay another night and we do. We visit Albi with all its bricks and find a third chain at Dr.Velo & Mr.Bike.

A real short leg today. We get out the house early too so we arrive in Saint Sulpice way too early. We hang out in the square, eat ice cream from the kebab shop, hang outmore by the old castle and finally go and meet Stephane who is hosting us in his garden room. Because of the millions of mosquitoes (stephan is planting spinach wearing his raincoat as mosquito protection. So, this time we're trying a different way. So far it's not any more idyllic than along the canal, main road, big farms, apples, nothing in the villages. Staying with Jean Claude, a real peasant with a squeaky bike who gives us a tour of his organic farm and chargrilles us kebabs that we eat on the terasse. It's like it's summer again.

So so so , we set off tutto bene. At some point in the morning I said to Kevin to adjust his brakes because he was basically cycling with the brakes on. So we took of the bags, adjusted the breaks and discovered that our little through axle accident had distroyed the rim. Packed down the tent and had breakfast just i time for the first wave of the storm. Set of in a proper down pour with big rain drops. Had a little poop stop in Sauveterre and decided to book a room for the night, with more thunder and rain on the horizon. It's quite hilly and our chains have started slipping and sometimes just spin out on us on very steep hills. Finally we got to the Garonne, picture postcard Canal du Midi. Knackered, flopping in our room, trying to revive the drowned phone.

Garannce showed us the way in the morning, leading us through the houses on her little bicycle. Really muggy weather today and I'm feeling very sluggish. Changed our mind when we got to La Sauve and took the greenway to Sauveterre instead of going down to the garonne to look for the Cabande d O de La. Found a sweet little aire de bivouac in Saint Brice, a couple of pique nique benches, drinking water, a little forest and a little grass field to pitch our tent provided by the mairie.

Cycled on the sometimes very bumpy voie vert from Barbecieux. Staying with Stephanie and Claude their kids Garance and Maurice, grandma Anita is there too. Maurice is ill and grumpy. Nothing but vineyards and Cgnac. It is harvest time and the giant tractor harvestors are quite impressive. Staying with Cyrill who had to go and dance Tango in Angouleme, so we had a quiet evening. He made us cognac pancakes in the morning, hic. He also told us about the famous Rigaut the Troubadour from Barbezieux.

A slow start. We didn't here the alarm, slept in until half nine, went to the market to buy food and eventually got off at mid day. Arrived in Saintes with a puncture on the front wheel, must have been that bumpy deviation on the flow velo. Staying with Francoise and Jean. Carol, a pieds libre is staying because she's giving a talk at the festival de evasion about her eight years walking around the world. She was very loud and talked a lt! Francoise gave us a kilo of apples in the morning!

The next day we met Julie Verre and Francois and their little Eva for a drink in the market and ended up staying the night with them dreaming about cycling circuses and ginger ninjas ❤️

Dilly dallied about, stopped at Moor Imagination Collective in Buckfastleigh for lunch and got invited to a coffe because we're "real scruffers". Arrived at yet another dogsit and met Clare and her husband Pete, who turns out saw our show at the Random Arms up at Maker back in 2016(?) Perkins and Bruno are two funny little dachshunds and they pee on the carpet in the living room which smells like a zoo, woohoo. Anyway we'll survive the week I hope.

Just a lot of hills. They don't seem to be as fierce as the day before. Went to the bike shop in Crediton in the morning to pump up our tyres and ask about any bottom brackets and got another confirmation on how rubbish the new Shimano UN300 are. Ours are now both squeeking and wibbling. Will we make it up another hill? Staying in the old Bundu Camping which has changed it's name to Sourton Down Campsite.

We eventually make it to our destination and meet Rita who gives us the key to Joe's off grid cabin in the woods where we spend an extra night and have a nice rest.

Climbed up the old Brecon on the old forestry road which is nice and steady, not too bumpy and mostly in the shade of the woods with the occasional view over the reservoir. In the morning we had to cycle back up that same hill, past the pub cursing it with every push of the pedal. We arrived at our Warmshowers house to a note pinned on the door saying "if you're Kevin and Sylvia, you're in the right place. Come on in!" Phil was upstairs working. It took us all evening to figure out that we had met before! He as one of our first ever warmshowers hosts after a ridiculous ride to Bridgwater in 2013. What fun!

Arrived in Newton fairly early in the day and cycled up the hill to the pub with the campsite. The pub said it wasn't going to open until five pm or so. So we thought we take that time to change Kev's break pads, watching online tutorials, using the pub benches. Bike's done, pub still not open. A beeautiful ride across Anglesey, following mostly gentle hills on country lanes. The voting stations are open and there is a certain aire of susspense, excitement. Cycled into Dublin. So much traffic! And slightly weird cycling infrastructure. Felt really trapped on the bike lanes and things like caffees and shops felt very inaccessible. The sign posting to the ferry port was disastrous and we had to do a 8 lane U-turn as to not end up on the motorway. And the icing on the cake was that we had to take all our luggage of the bikes so the bikes could travers the ocean on a trailer. Decided to go to the campsite at Loughcrew Megalithic Centre and spend the weekend there rather then cycling around in circles. Went on a guided barefoot tour of Cairn T on Saturday. Beautiful views up there! Sunday it rained all day, we hid in the tent and were very happy for the kitchen facilities.

Shirley and Ronan took us down to the pub because there was a power cut and we couldn't cook dinner. Well, we have learnt our lesson! Past the pantano to Otxandio up the Urkiola where we discovered how high we'd climbed over the past few days! Very dramatic descent into Durango. Very glad we didn't do the Urkiola going the other way!!!! 10 and 12% all the way! Idoia from warmshowers came to our rescue and we had a nice rest.

A lovely ride on the via verde vasco navarro until! Until the tunnel that is no longer there because the quarry is eating away at the mountain and the only thing those dumpties of cycling infrastructure planners can think of is to take you up to the top of the hill where they then take you on a rough track that takes you over two colls with another 200m up and 200m down. Google and open street map kept telling us to take the road somewhere half way up the hill which was the road into the quarry [...]
(big quarry!) With a massive sign saying Paso Prohibido! So after having lost two hours going up and down a mountain we took the only other option, the main road wich was fine lovely big hard shoulder... Very happy to stay in a house for two nights that has a bath tub!

We made it up and over El Perdon. It's a much easier climb coming from Pamplona. Met a couple of french ladies on crappy old bikes who were pushing up most of it and where just as fast as we were cycling. All day on the old road next to the motorway apert from one bit where we followed the EV3 sign and ended up on a little narrow wall surrounded by poppies and thistles. The hostel stay was pretty adventurous, snoring pilgrims left right and centre, windows shut, fear of falling out of the bunk [...]
with no sides to it and the first pilgrims that started getting up at 5am. We hadn't slept very well but got of super early. So we were in Estella by lunch and decided to carry on on the via verde for another 20km to get to the campsite in Acedo. We was knackered by the time we got there but the lady was super friendly and we had a bottle of propper cider so all was well again. It's pretty frosty.

We were all ready for a big day of cycling with bath in the hot spring st the end. But when we got to Cubieres sur Cinoble the road was closed for a Porsche rally. Luckily there was a camping just down the road. So we went there and went for a walk in the very spectacular Gorges de Galamus.
